Summer reflections

Image
Thinking back on last summer, one of my favorite times was an early morning at the beach on a calm day. The only sound was the gentle lapping of the waves and the occasional  flutter of leaves in the  breeze. The sun was just starting to light up the beach and the lake turned beautiful shades of blue and green. I stood on the bluff and watched a small boat in the distance. What I did last summer- Part 2

I painted several times at one of my favorite places on our family farm. The spot is an old irrigation pond.  When it was first dug many, many years ago the water was clear. On  hot summer days we used to take our rafts and join the neighborhood kids for a "pool party". Now the water is dark and moody and a habitat for birds, bugs and butterflies.  "The old swimming hole" 10" x 8" on gessobord "Milkweeds, just waiting for butterflies" 12" x 9"  oil on canvas panel

Michigan Summer

Image
This summer I am spending some time in Michigan at the family farm. My grandchildren are here, and of course that is a huge reason I love being here.  I paint every chance I get. One quiet morning I went to the beach of lake Michigan near my home.   It was just me, the lake and the perch fisherman. "Finally a quiet morning !" 6"x 8" oil on gessobord "Pilgrim Haven Stream" 8"x 10" oil on canvas panel

More Plein Air Studies

I wasn't posting but I was painting. I walked out of my studio door early one morning in my pj's with coffee cup in hand. As I looked at the sun just peeking over the mountains I changed my plans and set up my easel. I love when the sun touches the tips of the trees by the shady path from my studio to the wash. 10" x 8" oil on canvas panel Met my painting friend at Catalina State park one windy morning. I had just finished this painting and a dust devil came up and blew it in the sand. I had to scrape some of it down and repaint. 8" x 10"  oil on linen panel A couple of days later we met again at Catalina State Park and we painted the view from the picnic area. What a great place to enjoy your breakfast or lunch after a good hike. 10" x 8" oil on linen panel One Saturday morning I met two of my painting friends at Sabino Canyon. We walked out into the desert from the parking lot and had this sunrise vista wait

A few weeks ago,  I spent a lovely winter afternoon at Catalina State Park with my husband.  He hiked a little and read a book in the shade while I painted. We had a picnic.  A perfect day.  The sun hitting on the mesquites gave them a purple glow. "Purple Mesquites" 8' x10" oil on linen panel
